Get your fireplace right: adding a roof-mounted fan

A fireplace has become an essential attribute of a private residence, a countryside cottage or an inn. In the days of old fireplaces were first and foremost used for heating. These days they have become a symbol of homeliness: the logs cracking in the fire bring sweet memories, soothe one’s heart and promise a better tomorrow.

Unfortunately some fireplaces make nasty surprises for the owners due to the lack of a proper ventilation system: emit intoxicating fumes while starting, fire up with a lot of reluctance and engulf the room in smoke instead of letting it out of the chimney. Of course, this has nothing to do with comfort of cosiness.

A VKT series roof-mounted chimney fan by VENTS will help your fireplace run with consistent efficiency for only positive emotions. The VKT series is designed to boost draft and extract hot smoke and combustion products from fireplaces, furnaces and other sources of open fire. These fans are used for standard periodic or constant exhaust ventilation. VKT fans are suitable for houses and cottages with fireplaces as well as restaurants, cafés and hotels equipped with furnaces, grills and other fire sources.

Just a few advantages of VKT fans:

  • capable of extracting gases up to 200°C during 5 hours;
  • fan casing is made of galvanized steel with a polymer coating protecting from weather elements and aggressive environments;
  • air flow capacity up to 1,000 m3/h.

VKT operating principle

The fans feature asynchronous motors running on roller bearings for reliable and trouble-free operation and are equipped with built-in thermal protection. The compartment housing the motor is isolated from the hot air stream and has ventilation openings for efficient heat dissipation. The rotating blades produce centrifugal force which helps suck in the dirty air which is safely extracted outside. A purpose-designed impeller with backward-curved blades minimizes soot and carbon deposits for easy maintenance. VKT fans are mounted on the roof on the top section of the chimney. The units are connected via a transformer or a thyristor speed regulator for draft regulation and, consequently, maximizing the fireplace efficiency.
