Searching for energy-efficient solutions

In late April this year “Ventilation Systems” took an active part in the 7th International “Energy Integration 2017” conference held in Kyiv.

The conference was organised by the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture in collaboration with the Kyiv Representative Office of the Polish Academy of Sciences under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The main topics of the conference included research of energy conservation and rational use of resources and implementation of alternative energy in architecture, construction and related industries. This year’s programme included presentations by two VENTS representatives.

Olena Olenina

The presentation by the project manager of integrated climatic engineering solutions Olena Olenina covered the features and advantages of Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems. Such systems enable individual adjustment of climatic parameters for each specific space served by the same centralised ventilation unit. This helps reduce investment and operating costs while ensuring a maximum level of occupant comfort. “According to the data provided by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) the adoption of VAV energy-saving principles in ventilation system design may help achieve average energy savings up to 25 % compared to conventional constant air flow ventilation systems“, said Olena Olenina.

Valentin Tolchenov

The presentation on state-of-the-art energy-efficient solutions for covered car parks delivered by VENTS project manager Valentin Tolchenov stressed the advantages of pulse ventilation and smoke extraction systems. According to Mr Tolchenov, today such systems offer a viable alternative to conventional ventilation and smoke extraction systems offering numerous technical, economic and safety benefits. “The key benefit of such systems is the complete absence of air ducts allowing for a significant reduction of car park height and considerable savings on reinforced concrete structures in capital projects. Unlike conventional systems which operate continuously on-demand pulse ventilation systems can operate intermittently whenever there is a need for an air exchange in the car park which can help significantly reduce operating costs“, added the speaker.
