Ecodesign Directive: the key aspects
European Parliament and the Council of the European Union adopted Directive 2009/125/ЕС establishing a framework for the setting of ecodesign requirements for energy-related products. The directive provides regulations which apply to fans, ventilation units and their markings. With the prospects of Ukraine’s adoption of ecodesign regulations lingering on the immediate horizon compliance with EU legislation has recently moved to the top of the agenda for both ventilation equipment engineers and consumers.
Although the Directive is to be implemented in Ukraine beginning 2019, all the VENTS products exported to the EU are already being supplied with all the necessary documentation certifying compliance with EU environmental safety and energy efficiency standards. This is to give our customers an extra peace of mind with regards to quality and reliability of our ventilation products.
Basic facts
Ecodesign is a framework of mandatory requirements which place the main emphasis on rational use of energy resources and improve the environmental performance of a product through its entire life cycle. Ecodesign aims at a 20 % reduction in electricity consumption and CO2 emissions by means of phased strengthening of requirements to energy-related products.
To the effect of implementing the Directive the EU commission adopted a number of Regulations which provide specific requirements to ventilation products imported to the EU – in particular:
- Commission Regulation (EU) No. 327/2011 (minimum requirements for fans driven by motors).
- Commission Regulation (EU) No. 1253/2014 (energy efficiency requirements for residential and non-residential ventilation units). This Regulation provides requirements for a detailed user’s manual and technical specification sheet.
- Commission Regulation (EU) No. 1254/2014 (mandatory requirements for marking and provision of additional information on residential fans and ventilation units).
Nationwide benefits
Lower energy consumption, conservation of environmental resources and reduced carbon footprint all contribute to a healthier economic and natural environment.
Individual consumer benefits
Ventilation products are provided with a comprehensive user’s manual and technical specification sheet to help compare and choose products more easily.
Moreover, all VENTS residential ventilation units are additionally provided with standardised identification labels containing a brief summary of technical parameters such as energy consumption class, sound power level and air flow rate to facilitate product comparison.
For mode detailed information about the Ecodesign Directive, energy-efficiency parameters and product identification please see our Ecodesign leaflet.
