New technology for energy-saving ventilation
The casing is the key integral element of an air handling unit. Casings are normally made of high-quality steel for strength and durability. All the components inside the casing are tightened to specification for a secure fit. To minimize heat losses and noise levels the casing is padded with a special layer of thermal and sound insulation while joints are carefully sealed. However, with new technology steel casings may soon become a thing of the past.
Introducing the latest addition to the company’s range: the VUT P5B EC air handling unit in a casing made of expanded polypropylene (EPP).
Let’s take a closer look at the benefits that EPP casings offer compared to conventional air handling unit casings made of steel or zinc aluminium.
No thermal bridges. It is a well-known fact that parts made of different materials have different thermal conductivity. An area or structural component which has higher thermal conductivity than the surrounding materials creates a path of least resistance for heat transfer which results in condensation. Besides causing damage to the structural elements condensation leads to elevated humidity in the area where the air handling unit operates.
Physical properties. The casing material is extremely robust and shock-resistant. In addition to that it offers outstanding flexibility and deformation resistance.
Waterproofing/noise suppression/thermal insulation. The new casing helps achieve excellent waterproofing. It also reduces noise emissions and heat losses to a bare minimum.
Moulded casing elements. The unit is easy to disassemble and re-assemble. This feature makes service maintenance a breeze. In addition to the familiar detachable access panel the air handling unit casing has detachable pockets for quick filter replacement. Service maintenance has never been easier!
Installation. The unique feature of this unit which is technically designated as “suspended” is that it can be mounted in any position: horizontally, vertically, backward or forward oriented – any way you need. This is possible thanks for the condensate drain and the drip pan which can be attached on any side of the unit as necessary.
Unit weight. With conventional materials an air handling unit can weigh up to 50 kg whereas units in an EPP casing tip the scales at just 14 kg.
EC motor with backward curved blades. Besides all the known benefits of EC motors (such as energy savings, intelligent control, and high efficiency) the impeller with backward curved blades used in this model offers even bigger energy-saving opportunities.
The units are available in two variants: with a heat exchanger made of polystyrene (VUT 180 P5B EC) and a heat exchanger with an enthalpy membrane (VUE 180 P5B EC).
- Depending on the core type the heat exchange efficiency varies from 79 to 98 %.
- Maximum power: 87 W.
- Maximum air flow rate: 220 m³/h.
- Noise level: 33 dBA.
- Air duct diameter: 150 mm.
